February 2017 Meeting: Organizing Your Fabric Stash

We will be meeting February 5th from 1-4pm at The Pittsburgh Project. Can't wait to see you there!

Did you make a New Year’s Resolution to organize your fabric stash?  If so, you are not alone.  That’s number one on the quilter wish list, according to American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine.

Karen Womack will share tips, techniques and her personal organization journey.  Bring your questions/frustrations, a pen, and pre-printed address labels to participate in a drawing or two.

Other things to remember for this meeting:

• This is your last opportunity to bring in those UFO's if you wish to participate in our UFO Finish Along in 2017
• Let's see your Upcycled Clothing Challenge minis! This is the final deadline for entries. Please have a label with your name attached to the back.
• Don't forget your Inspiration Challenge block 
• Projects for Show and Tell
• The QuiltCon charity challenge quilt will be attending the meeting before it makes its journey to Savannah!

Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild Spring Sewing Retreat

When: Friday, March 24, 2017 12:00 PM until Sunday, March 26, 2017 3:30 PM
 

Pack up your stuff! It's almost time for our first weekend long sewing retreat! This members only event will feature three glorious days of sewing, food, laughs, and hanging with your favorite guild peeps. 

There are two ticket options: 

All weekend admission ($165 plus fees) which includes:

• Admission to the venue from Noon on Friday March 24th until 3:30pm Sunday March 26th with 24 hour access to the sewing space
• Lodging on Friday and Saturday (rooms are private, but bathrooms are shared)
• Meals provided starting with Dinner on Friday through breakfast on Sunday (feel free to bring snacks!)

Saturday only admission ($80 plus fees) which includes:

• Admission to the venue from 9:30am - 6:00pm on Saturday March 25th
• Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (feel free to bring snacks!)
• There are only a limited number of these tickets available!

The following items are NOT included in the ticket price. Sorry, we aren't offering ANY of these thing:

• Interruptions by well meaning family members
• A pile of dirty dishes
• Seven piles of dirty laundry
• Sewing in a cramped, uncomfortable space

We will have cutting and ironing stations available, so you only need to worry about bringing your machine and other standard supplies (it's always a good idea to pack an extension cord!). Portable design walls are welcome if you are able to bring one.  Don't hesitate to email the guild if you have any questions at pittsburghmqg@gmail.com.

ATTENDANCE AND CANCELLATION POLICY: Retreat admission is not guaranteed until payment is completed. Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. In the event that you need to cancel, refunds will only be issued until ticket sales close on 03/10/2017. Ticket fees will not be refunded. The retreat is only open to Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild members.

Call for Program Idea Submissions

At our January meeting we discussed the things that we enjoyed most about our previous year as a guild. One thing came up frequently and that was sharing ideas and learning from each other. So, we want to hear from you!

We are currently accepting ideas for meeting topics. 
Please e-mail the guild if you have an idea to propose for an upcoming program. It's not required that you teach the topic that you suggest, but we would love to hear from you if you'd be willing to do so. 

As an added incentive, members who present programs will receive a $25 gift card to Spool.

January Meeting Recap

One of the two quilts Gerry will be teaching at the Pgh Knit and Crochet Festival

January meetings are always a little different from the rest of the year.  We are looking at by-law changes, electing new officers and trying to both assess the past year's programming while looking ahead to the new year.  We opened introductions (and welcome to all of those new faces!) with the question of what we enjoyed most in 2016 and what we were looking forward to in 2017 for the guild.
