April 2019 Meeting Recap

Our April meeting was all about specialty rulers! 9 members brought different specialty rulers to demo for the guild, from curves to special squaring up rulers and more. A special thank you to Mim, B, Vivian, Missy, Cheralee, Cynthia, Karen, Courtney, and Nikki for demoing rulers for the guild.

Quilter's Depot is still accepting applications for mentors for their Sew Teach Me program, which provides free sewing lessons to kids ages 8-18. They will also take donations of notions and fabric (3/4 yard or larger). You can bring donations to a guild meeting and Cynthia will take the donations to Quilter's Depot.

The Riley Blake Challenge has begun! Fabric bundles were passed out to those who signed up. You can still participate if you missed out on the bundles! More details on the MQG website here.

The Modern Quilt Guild is looking for entries for the International Quilt Festival exhibit. You can find more details and sign up here.

The Mancuso show, the Pennyslvania National Quilt Extravaganza, has once again asked the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild to exhibit our members' work! An email will go out this week with details regarding how to submit your work. We will have one exhibit of the POP Art challenge quilts and another exhibit of various member quilts.

We are exhibiting our POP Art minis at the Mt Lebanon library for the month of July. Please bring your mini to the May or June meeting, Nikki will collect them and store them until they are hung. All minis must have hanging sleeves sewn to the back. Here is a tutorial on how to create a hanging sleeve.

Our spring workshop is Saturday, May 18th. An email and blog post went up with more information. WorkshopPgh is graciously hosting the workshop for us, and all sign up is through their site. Use this link for sign up!

Our May meeting is an all day sew day on May 4th from 9am-9pm in our normal meeting space in the Holy Spirit cafeteria. An e-vite will go out shortly.

Our 2020 retreat is book for May 15th-17th at the Martina Spiritual Retreat Center!

Don't forget about our current challenge to make a modern quilt (any size, any colors, any fabrics!) with the Drunkard's Path block as inspiration. Challenge quilts are due at the June 2 meeting. Use the hashtag #pghmqgmodernpath so we can follow your work!

Mim made silverware holders for her grandkids for Easter:
Karen showed the top she was working on at retreat:
Nikki made this top at retreat, too:
Cheralee showed samples from a class she took at QuiltCon:
