October 2022 Meeting Recap

Announcements:

-New Guild Committee - Tech Team

                  We are looking for 3 or more volunteers to support the zoom meetings with;                                                  setting up equipment, welcoming participants, responding chat surveys etc.

                  Training will be provided! If interested please reach out to leadership.

- QuiltCon registration is open.   QuiltCon 2023 - Atlanta, Georgia February 23-26 / more information is at the MQG website 

-MQG Sessions, a virtual conference with 20 workshops and lectures, is October 13-16. Sign up is open on the MQG website.

-Our Charity Quilt is ready for binding and label. We are looking for a volunteer to finish our quilt.

-PA National Quilt Extravaganza : we had 20 quilts on display, see below

Our October Meeting focused on bag making. 

Karen talked about :

                               -different styles of bags, 

                               -fabric choices

                               -interfacing

                              -zippers and

 Charelee talked about:

                              -how to use specialty fabrics

                              - how to use grommets

                              -how to upcycle leather and other materials

 September Meeting Recap

We dedicated our September meeting to work on our 2023 QuiltCon Charity Outreach quilt, designed by Michele K.  Members assembled and distributed block kits in August. Completed blocks were returned and we sewed the quilt top together.

 Thank you for all members who showed up and helped out.

Our quilt will be entered in the QuiltCon chapter display and offered for sale, with the proceeds directed to a charity in the Atlanta area.  QuiltCon, the Modern Quilt Guild's annual conference, will be held February 23-26, 2023 in Atlanta. Visit QuiltCon 2023 for more information.

 August Meeting Recap

August Meeting theme Exploring Modern : Upcycling presented by Sally Martin

Sally discussed reasons to upcycle clothing and textiles, where to source clothing, and showed us quilt pieces she made with recycled denim. In-person attendees had the opportunity to take apart a necktie.

QuiltCon Charity Outreach quilt theme : gradation. Block kits were distributed at the August meeting. Blocks are due at the September meeting. Thanks Michele for taking this project on.

Applying Alternate Grid to T-shirt quilts - Lecture by Gail who showed examples of T-shirt quilts she has made for customers.  She shared her tips and tricks for design, assembly, and troubleshooting
