Our May meeting was held during our Annual Retreat on May 8th.We had a short business meeting .

We had a great turnout for our Annual Retreat. It was good to see our members busy sewing, chatting and having fun.

April meeting recap


Great turn out at our in-person April meeting.







Announcements:

- Zoom workshop with Mel Beach April 24-25

- Annual Retreat registration is open. Retreat date : May 7-8

                      Retreat location: Martina Spiritual Renewal Center       

- May guild meeting : May 8th during the retreat at Martina Spiritual Renewal Center  12-2pm

- Needle Book exchange during the May meeting

- Our 2nd quarter challenge quilts are due by the June 6th meeting. The subject is problem fabric.

- FPP pattern making with B is moved to the June meeting.

- Fabric Dying workshop is scheduled for June 26th. More information to follow.


Missy gave us a great presentation about quilts with text. This is the subject for our 3rd quarter quilt challenge. This challenge will due by the September meeting. No restriction on technique or on size however it has to be a finished quilt.

 March Meeting Recap


On March 6th we hosted our first Sew Day of 2021. During the sew day we had a short business meeting. It was really nice to see our members in-person. Our members were busy working on different sewing projects.

Announcements:

 - Our annual retreat is scheduled from May 7 - May 9 . More info to come.

 - April virtual workshop : Free Styling and Spiraling . Seats are still available for members.

 - Our upcoming meeting are going to be in-person. We hope to see all of you!


Our first quarter challenge quilts were due on arch 6th. Our members made some great quilts









Our 2nd quarter quilt challenge is all about ugly/problem fabric.  Due by the June 6th meting.

 February Meeting Recap


We held our monthly guild meeting on February 7th.

    Annual Retreat: Our annual retreat for members is scheduled from Friday May 7th through Sunday May 9th. More information to follow.

    QuiltCon: Our community outreach quilt, Moving in the Best Circles, has been submitted. The MQG will post the quilt show on line for all registered members.

 January 2021 Meeting Recap

Our January 3rd meeting was the annual business meeting, held this year on Zoom. 

We elected a new leadership team:

Announcements:

- Our regular meeting location, Holy Spirit Parish in Millvale, is now St. Matthew Parish. Same location, new name.

- Our annual Retreat is scheduled from Friday May 7th through Sunday May 9th. More info to follow.

- The Modern Quilt Guild's annual show, QuiltCon, will be virtual for 2021.  Choose from classes, lectures, special events and the show gallery.  Registration and prices at  www.QuiltCon.com

- Our QuiltCon charity quilt, "Moving In the Best Circles" is finished and submitted!  Look for it in the Chapter Charity Quilt section of QuiltCon.  Thanks to all members who made a block, and special thanks to B for coordinating the quilt assembly - and the great photograph.

OCTOBER & NOVEMBER RECAP

 

Hello Guild Members! We have had two wonderful monthly meetings in-person so let hope we have our December All Day, Sew Day in-person as well!


Allegheny County is still in the yellow!

...but we’re going to continue meeting safely and will continue to provide digital content for those who do not wish to attend in person.

surfaces before and after meetings


Also, please leave the center lane open for church patrons to pass. 


Annual Retreat

Yay! Mark your calendars! Our annual retreat is scheduled from

Friday, May 7th through Sunday, May 9th.


Single occupancy overnights and sleep at home options will be

offered. Meal or no meal options will be offered as well.

Membership

We have 54 members for our 2020/21 year!


QuiltCon 2021

QuiltCon will be virtual for 2021.

● Quilt Submissions (by photo only) are due by the end of November

● Community Outreach Quilts will be submitted in photo form and will be posted online by the MQG for all to see. Our Quilt has been registered and submitted in drawing, rather than photo form. Photos can be swapped out in January for outreach quilts only.


2021 QuiltCon Community Outreach Quilt Challenge


Moving in the Best Circles - exemplifies the caliber and spirit of the Pittsburgh Modern Quilt Guild members. When we work together, we learn from one another, elevate our skills and benefit greatly from our interactions. The results of this are much more than the beautiful works we create, we are rewarded with an understanding of the importance of community and the value of pride in our accomplishments.

● Blocks must be completed and received by the December 5th sew day

● If you have difficulty with your block(s), hate it, and don't want to do it, will not have enough time or lost it, never fear! Just let B know and we’ll figure something out! This is supposed to be fun!

4th Quarter Challenge - Monochromatic!

Create a modern quilt that uses a monochromatic palette.

● Due date, during the December 5th meeting/sew day

● No restrictions on size, fabric, etc., and yes, you can include blacks, whites and grays with your monochromatic selection

● This is the last 2020 entry challenge project for the 2021 free retreat drawing. You can make a 1” x 1” quilt and qualify! Don't miss out.
