August Sew Day and Meeting Recap
We held our annual summer sew day on August 7th. During the sew day we had a quick business meeting. We had a great turnout for the day. Lots of projects under the needles.
Announcements
- Curated Quilts featured QuiltCon 2021 charity quilts, including our Circles Quilt, in an August 3 blog post. Visit www.Curated Quilts.com to read the blog post.
- Our QuiltCon 2021 charity quilt was donated to Light of Life Rescue Mission in early July. Gail, Sandy, B and Karen presented the quilt to Colleen McKerley, Development Manager, who gave a tour of the new facility. Light of Life Rescue Mission provides food and shelter to the hungry and homeless. The quilt will be in the auction at the More Than A Meal Gala and Fundraiser, October 19 at Heinz Field. We will share information as it becomes available.
- TaMara Howard has a quilt published in the latest edition (Issue 16 - Stripes) of Curated Quilts, a quarterly printed journal. Congratulations!!
- Salvation Army Fabric Sale is September 18th . Annual sale with bargains on fabric, yarn & crafts donated by area businesses and individuals. Donations of fabric and sewing items accepted Wednesdays 10 am – 2 pm at 820 Parish Street, 15220 (Greentree) and at the Pittsburgh Knit Crochet Quilt and Creative Arts Festival August 12-14.
- St Barnabas Nursing Home requests donations of new lap quilts and coverlets as welcome gifts for clinical patients. Sizes - 36 inch square for wheelchair laps, throw size for TV room or room decoration, or twin size for beds. Clarification: These will be distributed to new residents on an ongoing basis – the Christmas gift drive is a separate program. Workshops
- Our Fall Workshop – Circular Explorations with Brenda Gael Smith, Australia. Two-part workshop: Oct 23 & Nov 6, 5-8 pm both days. Registration opens for members and the general public in September. The registration fee for members will be announced at the September meeting.
- The next Global Quilt Connection All Star Sampler Platter is October 2 & 3 from 3-6 pm. This is a virtual event. Nationally known quilt teachers will demo techniques. New – demos will be available for 24 hours after the event. Our guild will purchase a group pass for our membership. Mark your calendar – we will email the Zoom link in late September.
Show and Tell
Our next meeting is September 12th . Meeting topic and speaker to be announced. Our quarterly challenge, Numbers & Letters, is due. Members who complete their challenge quilt by the due date will be entered into a drawing for an overnight stay at the 2022 Retreat. We hope to see you there!
