"April" meeting announcement

Oh, wow! It's already time for the April meeting....except in March!

Please join us this coming Sunday, March 29th at 1:00pm, for the "April" meeting. This meeting has been pushed up a week due to the Easter holiday falling on the first Sunday in April. Also, we will be meeting in the Pittsburgh Project Guest House, (2801 North Charles Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15214) rather than the usual meeting room. The Guest House is the grey building behind the school house. You can find dedicated parking for this building by driving up Arvada Way. There will be signs posted to direct you to the location, but here is a map too:

Melissa will be sharing details and free swag from QuiltCon, the Fat Quarter Club fabric selections will be disbursed, and we will discuss details of the upcoming sewing retreat on May 2nd. The rest of the meeting will be free sew, so feel free to bring along any projects you are working on. Also, if you are interested in participating in the next charity quilt collaboration please bring (or make at the meeting) a 12x18" block constructed of greens, blues, and greys!

Don't forget that the Three Rivers Quilt Show runs from March 26th-28th! We hope to see you there!

March meeting recap

Thank you to everyone who came out to the rescheduled March meeting! A lot of members showed off the lovely work they have been stitching away at over this frigid winter.

This is so striking, Michelle!

Mona's delightful butterfly

Another beauty from Gerry!

Gretchen had some fun new bags to show us!

TaMara's happy little mini-quilt
Please visit the guild’s Flickr page to view all of the many show and tell pieces from this meeting.

We continued our journey through Lucky Spool’s Essential Guide to Modern Quilt Making with a discussion on the use of solids and prints. Amanda constructed three versions of March’s BOM Hexing Around to demonstrate how altering the ratio of solids and prints affects the visual impact of the block.

After the discussion a few members started constructing their own Hexing Around blocks. They are off to a pretty good start!

If you would like to make some of the BOM selections yourself, please head on over to the new Block of the Month page on this blog to easily access the past selections.

Please note that the next meeting is on Sunday, March 29th due to Easter falling on the first Sunday in April! The next meeting will feature a QuiltCon recap by Melissa, and the Fat Quarter Club fabric will be distributed. The remainder of the time will be Free Sew.

We were scheduled to cover Circles and Curves at the next meeting, but this will be postponed to the day of the sewing retreat (Saturday, May 2nd). We will have more details about the sewing retreat at the next meeting, but the plan is to hold the regular May meeting at 1:00pm during the retreat. Please feel free to join us for the May meeting even if you are not able to stay the entire day!

There is a new charity quilt opportunity listed on the Community Outreach page of this blog. Race for the Cure is collecting 5” squares of decorated fabric for quilts that are to be constructed for breast cancer patients. Please have a look at the Community Outreach page to check out the details if you are interested in helping.

Finally, we would like to form a Charity Quilting committee to identify worthy causes and organize such collaborative projects. If this interests you please shoot us an email or let us know at the next meeting! We would like to kick off this new charity quilt initiative by collecting 12x18” rectangular blocks that are constructed in a grey/blue/green color scheme at the next meeting (03/29). There are no design guidelines, so let your imagination guide you if you would like to participate!

See you soon!

March meeting rescheduled

I apologize dearly for the late notification, but the meeting that was cancelled this past weekend has been rescheduled for this coming Sunday, March 8th, for 1:00-4:00 at the Pittsburgh Project. Please join us if you are able to. We will be reviewing the use of solids and prints as planned. Unfortunately, the Fat Quarter Club selections will not be available until the next meeting (March 29th) due to scheduling conflicts. We hope to see you there!
