Jan/Feb meeting recap

pghmqg

This is Cheralee, social media person for 2016.  This is my first recap, so let's get to the Jan/Feb meeting.

Lots of brainstorming was done at this meeting!

  • Lauren asked lots of questions about our goals and how they could be accomplished with our funds.  Do we want local teachers to lead workshops?  Did we want to pursue national personalities for classes?  (Most "big names" are booking in 2017 at this point.)  The notion (see what I did there?) of having an overnight retreat was enthusiastically supported.  Sharing teachers who are in town because of other projects was also discussed.  A request for an improv workshop was brought up because of the response to our MQG Charity quilt as well as how much fun members had working on it.
  • Michelle handed out the remaining membership cards.  Please contact her if you haven't received yours.  She also collected the money for the next FCQ.
  • Because of the exposure the bridge quilt has brought to the guild, Cheralee contacted modern quilt guilds in Pennsylvania and Ohio to see if they would be interested in swapping mini quilts with us to create connections.  There was a positive response from the Capital Area MQG (Harrisburg) and the Philly MQG. Hopefully we will make lots of new friends. #makeaquiltmakeafriend
  • Barb Grossman of Pittsburgh's Knit & Crochet Festival and Creative Arts Festival dropped by.  She graciously agreed to hang the bridge quilt at the festival.  Lots of cool stuff will be available to try out and to see.  Look for more info in an email.
  • Amanda went to the Tech Shop to see if they could offer us space or supplies for a printmaking workshop.  They have lots of options in tools and toys for us to consider.  She is also choosing the fabric for the next FQC.

The theme for this meeting was "In With the New!" - what new fabrics, patterns or projects are you excited about this year?  Members shared new fabrics, new projects, new designers and new pre-cut sizes that they are excited to use this year.  Massdrop is quite the guilty pleasure. ;)  Two tables were set up for the scraps that were brought to share.  After some spirited digging, comments like "Why are you getting rid of this?" and "Oh!  I need that!" could be heard.  Leftover scraps were donated.
