November 2016 Meeting Recap

Let's get right to it, shall we?  Lots of ground to cover this month!
  • Gerry and Elmira both placed in the Beaver Valley Quilt Show.  Congratulations!

  • Our #quiltsforpulse quilt was featured on the local Orlando news station.  Click here.

  • The current QuiltCon charity quilt will be ready for the entrance deadline this month!  Thank you to everyone who worked on it!

  • Registration will open in January for the March 24-26 retreat.  Cost is $160/person, meals included.

  • We are going to try to add more sew days to the 2017 calendar.  Jan 21 (12-5) at Carnegie Library Allegheny branch on the North Side & Feb 18 (10-5) East Liberty Library (room 2)

  •  The MQG is looking for submissions!  I touched briefly on this in the October recap, but they are looking for content, webinar ideas and patterns.  The BOM series kicked off this month and if you are interested, they are looking for a board member!  Check your MQG emails for details.  (If you aren't receiving them, check in with VP of Membership, Michelle.)

  • There is a new guild challenge!  Using Upcycled Clothing, create a mini quilt 24" or smaller.  Like the Paint Chip Challenge, they will hang at Spool and you will have all of February to get in there and vote!  Winner gets a sweet $50 gift card to Spool and bragging rights.  Maybe you have an ugly Christmas sweater hanging in the closet?  Amanda wrote up the details and you can find them HERE.  Also, if you aren't sure how to start, the latest MQG webinar is on reclaimed textiles.  Remember that with your membership you can participate in this and look up any past webinars on the MQG site.  Click here for that webinar.

  • Leadership nominations are due 12/6 to Pam, who has agreed to be our election officiant again.  We will be voting January 8th.

  • By-laws have been updated.  A copy will be emailed out. PLEASE look them over.  We will be voting at the December meeting.

  • Next meeting is the holiday sew day.  It had to be moved to the Quilt Company and is from 9-4pm.  An eVite went out.  Please check your emails, including any spam folders, to register.

The Inspiration Challenge is going strong and we want to thank Coriander Quilts for the great donation for the raffle.  (I admit, I am a little covetous this month!😉)

Quilt As You Go, hereafter referred to as QAYG, was presented by me (Cheralee) during the November guild meeting.  Attempting to keep it short and sweet compared to the marathon applique talk (also me), I spoke for just a few moments and then set everyone free to sew.  I published the handout during the meeting announcement post, but here it is again.  It covers joining already quilted blocks, quilting raw edge scraps onto a background, and a few other techniques.  Here are Lauren's ticker tape, Ailish's log cabins that needed backing and my rose bloom - all QAYG.
