March 2023 Meeting Recap

Here's to keeping this recap short & sweet!

Our next upcoming event is the March Sew Day at our Millvale meeting space (cafeteria) on March 18, 2023.  You are welcome to sew from 9am through 9pm and a potluck lunch will be at 12:30pm.  The guild will provide cutting and ironing stations.  The date just so happens to coincide with National Quilting Day, so come out and be a social stitcher for the day!

The retreat will be in early May.  You can find those details here.

We're still collecting totes for Judy and those details can be found here.

Social media highlights included Modern Service Quilts and how to find workshops outside of your local guild network.  Suggestions were given for working through teachers themselves and also seeking activities through websites like Eventbrite.  It sounds like Allegheny county residents can also access CreativeBug, an online collection of teachers and workshops, for free through the Carnegie Library using their library card information.  If that's true, that's pretty amazing!  Please let us know if you try it and have success!

A quick review of QuiltCon in Atlanta was also covered.  Lots of great shopping, and inspiration was found, while trends were noted and thoughtful discussion was sparked.  We had an all-time high of ten members going, from first-timers to a few veteran attendees.

Our charity quilt was not purchased at QuiltCon, so solutions to place it in a new home and benefit charity are welcome.

Our program covered portable design walls, made with a variety of materials.  Erin provided a video by Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts that covered several methods for creating a design wall that can be tucked away when not needed.  You can check it out here!

The calendar page on the website has also been updated with some new information on quarterly challenges, quilts shows and meeting topics.  Check it out!

No codeword this time, but thank you to the 2 people who checked in with me.  I hope you enjoy those Wendy Frosties! ;)
